Marina Del Rey is an incredible, coastal community in the heart of Los Angeles’ Westside. Surrounded on three sides by LA, Marina Del Rey is an oasis of maritime living and a popular home for boating enthusiasts. Originally constructed in the 1950s with continued growth throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Marina Del Rey is a gorgeous district of marinas, yacht clubs, and boats in slips or at anchorage. It is the largest man-made, small-craft harbor in the world. The water’s edge in Marina Del Rey is a mix of high-rise condominium complexes, luxury apartment buildings, hotels shops and restaurants.

In addition to the unforgettable condo complexes that host a variety of amenities, there are also exclusive beachfront properties and single-family homes that date to the original development of Marina Del Rey in the 1960s and 1970s. Homes in Marina Del Rey continue to increase in value and range in price from $800,00 to $1.2 million. However, beachfront homes in the exclusive beachfront communities trend in excess of $10 million.

While predominantly a boat based and tourist driven economy, Marina Del Rey has also recently attracted a number of high tech companies. Additionally, major employers here include the Los Angeles Department of Beaches, hotels and airlines. The area is also undergoing a significant redevelopment boom with updates to the park system, continued marina development and enhancements to the traffic infrastructure.

Living in Marina Del Rey

Life in Marina Del Rey centers itself around the water. Residents even describe living here as “every day feels like a vacation.” Much of the social hub for this boating community revolves around the six yacht clubs. The clubs are both public and private and offer yacht racing, classes and family activities. Because of the small size of Marina Del Rey, it is easy to navigate this laid-back community either on foot or on bicycle. On the water enjoy stand up paddleboarding, sailing, paddleboats, charter fishing and even gondola rides.

Even the local restaurants embrace their proximity to the Pacific Ocean. There are many fantastic seafood restaurants like the acclaimed SALT and an unusual opportunity to dock and dine by paddling up on an SUP at Killer Shrimp Restaurant and Bar.Beyond seafood there is a wide variety of restaurants in Marina Del Rey. Many specialize in California Contemporary cuisine and there are also numerous Thai, Italian and sushi establishments. Being a tourist draw, look for national chain restaurants such as Chipotle and The Cheesecake Factory.

On land, enjoy the parks, volleyball at Mother’s Beach, stroll the Burke Marina Walk Promenade of shop at the waterfront Fisherman’s Village complex.

While Marina Del Rey is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, there are actually no schools within the boundaries of Marina Del Rey. Students who live here attend classes in neighboring Venice and are zoned for the well respected Coeur D’Alene Elementary School, Marina Del Rey Middle School and Venice High.
